Description
Summary:The development of metal plating industry in Indonesia, apart from providing benefits, also has negative impact, such as the increase in the amount of industrial wastewater containing chromium, a dangerous heavy metal. Chromium metal in the form of Cr (VI) is more toxic and carcinogenic than chromium in the form of Cr (III). Therefore, an appropriate method is needed to analyze Cr (VI) concentration levels in environmental samples. Research for the determination of Cr (VI) using modified electrode in voltammetry technique is known to have good sensitivity. From the conducted literature review, the linear area of Cr (VI) measurement with this method was obtained in the range 10-4-10-9 M with detection limit of up to 10-11 M. Plant materials such as sugarcane bagasse as modifying agent were considered better because it is more environmentally friendly compared to chemically modified electrodes. Bagasse is the byproduct of the sugar industry and is known as a good adsorbent. Based on previous research, the use of bagasse as a modifying agent was reported to increase the sensitivity of carbon paste electrode (CPE) in determination of heavy metals like lead and cadmium. Therefore, the determination of Cr (VI) using this method is also expected to have good sensitivity and provide a wide linear range and low detection limit as in the results of the previous research of voltammetric determination of Cr (VI).
