in Indonesia. PT. XYZ encountered some challenges in selling their products due to VUCA era and
COVID-19 pandemic situation. In 2020 while facing the pandemic situation, PT. XYZ facing
declining sales, difficulties in producing new design, and declin ing result from output’s content
feedback and campaigns on social media. In order to survive and improve their performance in this
uncertainty era while facing tough competition, creativity is needed. Even though creativity is needed
to keep their business thrive, PT. XYZ find it d ifficult to stimulate employees’ creative thinking. In
order to keep their business thrive and help company to gain competitive advantage, the company
reconsider to improve their employees’ creativity through work environment as the performance of the
employees in regard to produce creative output is mainly affected by the condition of the workplace.
In regard to workplace creativity, the issues about potential lack of support from the work environment
that supports creativity were found at PT. XYZ.
This research aims to help PT. XYZ improve creativity of their employees by finding the current
situation of work environment, analyze the relationship within each factors of work environment, and
analyze the root cause of unsupportive work environment that supports creativity at PT. XYZ. The
targeted population of this research is PT. XYZ employees who are doing the creative work from
marketing division, creative division, and Research and Development (R&D) division, which consists
of 34 people. The author used KEYS Questionnaire by Amabile to measure the score of work
environment in this research.
After distributing the questionnaire, it was found that work environment’s factors that showed the
highest score were Work Group Support and Challenging Work (3.26) while the lowest score obtained
by Organizational Impediments factor (2.06). For the correlation analysis within each factor of work
environment using Pearson correlation, the result showed that the Stimulant Scales which consist of
Organizational Encouragement, Supervisory Encouragement, Work Group Support, Sufficient
Resources, Challenging Work, and Freedom showed positive and significant relationship with one
another and the Obstacle Scales which consist of Workload Pressure and Organizational Impediments
also showed positive and significant relationship with one another. From the correlation analysis, it
was found that one factor from Stimulant Scales, namely Sufficient Resources showed significant
relationship with both Stimulant Scales’ factors and Obstacle Scales’ factors.
The fishbone diagram was used to analyze the root cause of unsupportive work environment that
supports creativity and it was found that the lack of resources was the main issue of unsupportive
work environment at PT. XYZ. The lack of resources especially information came from the absence of
information as the effect of organization silos, the absence sharing session with senior employees, the
unavailability of knowledge sharing tool, and the lack of facilit ies and budget caused by funds cut by
the company as they need to manage resource they had at hand effectively in this pandemic situation.
Based on these findings, the author proposed several business solutions such as creating a program to
build alignment among leadership team, implement daily stand-up meeting, creating knowledge- sharing environment, using knowledge sharing tool for sharing the knowledge, and create resource
management plan to manage the resources in the company.
