<b>Abstract :</b><p align=\"justify\"> <br /> IP networks and the Internet have been known as unsecure networks as there are many attacks to systems connected to the Internet. One of those attacks is sniffing to data traffic in networks. <br /> VoIP is a service using IP networks, so VOIP system is also vulnerable to similar sniffing attacks. Sniffing can be in form of release of message content or of traffic analysis.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> In this thesis, we assessed the security of either PC-to-PC or PC-to-Phone VoIP services. Study is carried out by capturing data packets and analyze it. The result shows that VoIP services suffer weakness from sniffing, either content sniffing or traffic analysis purpose sniffing.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> Content sniffing can be carried out by using codec as used by sniffed communication. Signal reconstruction can be performed by packet sniffing that is started either before or during the communication.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> Traffic analysis purpose sniffing can be achieved especially by observe ARQ message that carried by RAS (Registration Admission Status) protocol sent for communication establishment. The traffic analysis can not be achieved if the sniffing is started after the communication established.
