Summary: | Office buildings and residential houses are some of the sectors that believes to be
consuming a lot of energy. However, both types of these buildings can potentially
reduce the consumption of energy. There are many ways to achieve effective energy
use. One way that can be done cheaply and effectively is to regulate the behavior of
the users of each building itself. This research focuses on three things, values,
awareness, and behavior. Values held by a person, and their awareness of energy
saving is assumed to have an impact towards environmental behavior that is shown
or carried out in throughout their daily activities. Environmental behavior and
energy saving shown by someone at home and office are also assumed to be different,
this is due to differences in motivation when performing these behaviors. This study
aims to see differences in energy saving behavior shown by individuals at home and
office.
The research was conducted in two stages and used a mixed method. Data in the first
research phase was collected using an open-ended online questionnaire and analyzed
using content analysis, distribution analysis, and correspondence methods. Data in
the second phase of the study were collected by distributing closed-ended online
questionnaires and analyzed by factor analysis and multivariate correlation analysis.
From the results of the study found a relationship between values, awareness, and
behavior. In occupancy, there are 3 dominant latent value variables that emerge,
namely 'Sustainability'. 'Controlling Nature', and 'Awareness'. In the latent variable
of consciousness, there are 3 that appear dominantly, namely 'Financial', 'Habit', and
'Energy Insight'. These two variables affect 3 latent behavioral variables, namely
'Utilization of Nature', 'Electricity Saving', and 'Restricting Usage'. Meanwhile in the
office buildings, there are 2 latent variables that appear, namely 'Sustainability' and
'Vigilance'. There are 4 latent variables of consciousness that emerge, namely 'Habit',
'Personal Responsibility', 'Financial', and 'Energy Insight'. These two variables affect
2 latent behavioral variables, namely 'Electricity Savings', and 'Electricity Needs'Based on the emerging relationships between value, awareness, and behavior
variables, there are several recommended intervention strategies for energy saving at
home and office. At home, there are 3 interventions, namely, Monetary Rewards,
Energy Audit, and Comparative Feedbacks. In housing, there are 5 interventions
offered, namely Education, Incentives, Energy Audit, Training, and Prohibition. |
