CORRELATION ON THE NEGATIVE IMPACT OF TOURISM PERCEPTION AND COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION IN JATIMALANG BEACH TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

Jatimalang Beach is one of the tourist attractions belonging to Purworejo Regency which involves the local community of Jatimalang Village to be involved in its management. Gradually since 2018 until now the local government has rearranged and added amenities and attractions to encourage an increase in the multiplier effect in response to several tourism issues which also affect the direction of development in Purworejo Regency. However, after the local government made some of these efforts, there were still several obstacles related to community support and participation in the implementation of the Jatimalang Coast tourism development plan. So it is necessary to carry out further studies regarding the negative impact of tourism and community participation in tourism development on Jatimalang Beach. This study uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches in which primary data collection is carried out through a questionnaire involving 168 respondents, field observations, and interviews with several related parties. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that there was 1 subvariable relationship at the strong level and 7 subvariable relationships at the strong enough level where all of them had unidirectional relationships. The 8 sub-variable relationships involved 3 negative impact sub-variables including the increase in congestion, accidents and parking problems, the increase in criminal acts such as theft, prostitution / free sex, the use of alcohol, drugs, etc., as well as the increase in pollution, noise, and other sub-variables. and waste / garbage. Furthermore, it involves 4 sub-variables of community participation in tourism development including the subvariable of providing opportunities and encouragement for the community to run a business and invest in tourism activities, the sub-variable of fair profit sharing from tourism to the community, the sub-variable that considers people's opinions in making tourism development decisions, and the sub-variable for organizational existence specifically related to tourism which can be a link between people's aspirations and the government.
