Description
Summary:Radio astronomy observations are conducted by observing electromagnetic wa- ves coming from natural sources in the sky by utilizing the radio spectrum. The use of radio spectrum has been regulated by the International Telecommu- nication Union (ITU) in the frequency allocation table which in Indonesia is managed by the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemkominfo). Due to its passive nature, radio astronomy activity will be very vulnerable to the presence of Radio Frequency Interference (RFI). RFI measurements were taken as the rst step in preparing a new radio as- tronomy observatory to obtain an overview of the radio spectrum at selected locations, including: Indosat Earth Station in Jatiluhur, Bosscha Observatory in Lembang, and CAS Building of ITB in Bandung. Measurements at these three sites were carried out for several days in 2019, 2020, and 2021, adopting the standard RFI measurement protoco o Square Kilometer Array (SKA) and reviewing measurements made in South Africa, Finland, and China. Instruments that are used includes: AaroniaTM HyperLOG 60100 LPDA anten- na, AaroniaTM UBBV2 RF pre-amplier, and AaroniaTM Spectran HF-60105 spectrum analyzer. The frequency of 680 - 9.400 MHz is selected by optimizing the instrument's capabilities. Measurements in one day are carried out for abo- ut 24 hours in four cardinal directions and two polarizations. The results and analysis are presented in spectral power ux density (SPFD) plots of frequency and spectral occupancy in the selected frequency bands.
