Description
Summary:More than 60% of construction works use concrete materials, classified into the cast in situ and precast concretes. In comparison, the precast concrete offers a better quality and time consumption than the cast in situ. However, the precast is still vulnerable to defects. Thus, quality management is imperative in solving this issue. Quality management requires a standard of quality and a suitable method, such as Six Sigma. Implementation of Six Sigma is not an easy task since it considers various challenges. Hence, this thesis will discuss the potential implementation of the production principles based on the Six Sigma concepts at a precast concrete company in Indonesia. This thesis takes a study case of PT W. The objectives of this study are to discuss the implementation of the quality management principles and the quality of production processes, also to determine the potential implementation of the quality management principles based on Six Sigma at PT W. Discussion on the implementation level of quality management principles is conducted according to the system of managed processes and several indicators. First, the standards governing the precast concrete quality in several countries are identified and compared. Further, the identified standards are used to measure the quality of production processes using the questionnaire on standard realization and defect frequency. The results are further used for determining the potential implementation of Six Sigma. The analysis shows that the implementation of quality management principles at PT. W is in the “High” category, and the quality of production processes is in the “Good” category. Consequentially, PT. W posses a “High” potential in implementing the production principles based on Six Sigma. The readiness analysis indicates that the company is in the “Ready” category in applying Six Sigma, noticing that the company needs to imp
