Description
Summary:For components that often receive friction, wear resistance is an important mechanical property. In order to increase its wear resistance Al-Cu-Mg alloys is processed with heat treatment and surface treatment. The wear characteristics of aluminum alloys that are treated with heat treatment and anodized are rarely carried out. On this research, wear testing, which uses a pin on a disk method, is done to aluminum 2024. The test variation parameter is the hardness of the material that has been given various heat treatment and anodized. The test is performed with the same loading, speed and duration of testing. The hardness value is obtained from rockwell hardness test and the wear resistance value is obtained from the mass loss of each test material. The results of the test shows that aluminum material which has been given heat treatment has better resistance than that of which is not given heat treatment. This is due to the heat treatment creates precipitates which can increase the hardness and wear resistance of the aluminum. Whereas for anodized specimens, the alumina layer when given a high enough friction and load continuously can act as an abrasive grain so the wear testing mode changes from dry sliding wear to three body abrasive wear that effect decreased wear resistance.
