LITERATURE REVIEW ON MEMBRANE-BASED FOR CONTAMINANTS OF EMERGING CONCERN (CECS) REMOVAL
The Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) such as pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs), pesticides, and industrial chemicals cause severe threat to human health and aquatic ecosystem. Many methods have been applied for the treatment of effluents...

Many methods have been applied for the treatment of effluents and separating the poisonous chemicals/metals. Compared to other methods, membrane-based is effective for produces high water quality with a high rate of CECs recovery and has low maintenance cost. This literature review presents comprehensive review of the various membrane-based technologies such as ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, membrane bioreactor, photocatalytic membrane, and integrating membrane processes which are used for the CECs removal. To date, there is no membrane-based treatment that can completely separate all kinds of CECs, however integrated membrane process with advanced oxidation process (AOP) shows optimal CECs separation because the combination between processes can complement each other's limitations. text |
