Indonesian Code of Practice in Wood Construction (PKKI-1961) based on the European wood data that have been used in Germany Code, DIN 1052 (1943). PKKI-1961 devided wood into strength class I, II, III, IV and V based on the specific gravity. In engineering problem, especially the buckling problem, there was only one buckling line consist of the linear line of Tetmajer and the hyperbole line of Elder that have derived for the strength class II. The research in buckling problem used Merbau and Kamper wood (from Irian Barat and Kalimantan respectively), that represented the strength class I and II. The research used ASTM standard D 143-83, D 198-84 and D 4761-93 in making the specimen, research methodology and the test equipment. The result showed that the mechanical properties (characteristic stress, bending stress, compressive stress parallel to grain and elasticity modulus) were over the PKKI-1961. PKKI-1961 never been revised due to new technology and development. From the result of this research, its now the time to renew the PKKI-1961.<p align=\"justify\"><br />
