It makes Indonesia has many natural resources that can be utilized, one of which is salt. However, it turns out that salt production in Indonesia is still low so we have to import salt from abroad. In addition, local salt still does not reach the required specifications. This is due to the presence of impurities in the salt so the purity is still low. Therefore, a special technology is needed regarding salt purification. In this research, the salt purification process will be investigated by the hydroextraction method. The objective of this research is to obtain salt with high purity until it can reach the industrial salt standards. The country salt (K3) has been washed using brine as washing solution. The ratio of amount of salt feed to the solvent (F:S) is 1:20, 1:30, and 1:40. The variation of hydroextraction time was carried out at 10, 20, and 30 minutes. The hydroextracted salt was tested to determine the levels of NaCl and its impurities. The experimental results were also compared with the simulation results. Based on the experiment, the mass loss percentage for each run was below 5%. The level of NaCl in the hydroextracted salt always increased with the highest level of 98.44%. In addition, the impurity levels have decreased with the lowest levels of 0.096% for Ca2+ and 0.311% for Mg2+. text |
