Summary: | The welfare of the elderly becomes a strategic issue both on a national and global scale in the future which is motivated by a significant increase in the number of elderly people globally. The issue of the elderly’s welfare requires attention from various sectors, one of them is tourism. The demographic phenomenon mentioned above is directly proportional to the increase in the number of elderly tourists on an international scale, which reached approximately 2 billion in 2015 according to the WTO (World Tourism Organization). WTO also states that senior tourism will become a market trend in 2020. In Bali, there has been an increase in elderly tourists in the past decade, which indicates that senior tourism is a strategic market trend to develop. The concept of this facility program combines senior tourism with wellness tourism as a form of Bali adaptation towards the current market phenomena and trends, especially the senior tourism sector in Tampaksiring, supported by the image of Bali as one of the well-known wellness retreat destinations in the world. Senior and health tourism is considered to have appropriate objective value because it focuses on building the individual experience by making the individual the main subject in the process.
This project focuses on the design of physical facilities and programs in it that are tailored to the specific characteristics of elderly tourists withing age range 50-80 so that they can comprehensively accommodate user needs. The design concept is “Senior Integrative Healing in Balinese Sanctuary” which creates a holistic experience where users get a new perspective on health through the implementation of a healing environment. This concept is represented in the keywords; local, quiet, and modern twist which further developed and applied to every interior design element. This study uses qualitative and descriptive research methodologies through online survey data collection techniques and interviews |
