A NOVEL METHOD TO DAMP TRANSIENT OSCILLATIONS IN CASCADED MULTIPHASE DC-DC BOOST CONVERTERS BY USING VIRTUAL RESISTOR

Cascaded multiphase DC-DC boost power converters are commonly used in high voltage-ratio applications that need very low input current ripple. In such applications, a sudden change of load current will generate transient oscillations on the leading stage of the boost converter. This research p...

In such applications, a sudden change of load current will generate transient oscillations on the leading stage of the boost converter. This research proposes a novel method to damp transient oscillations in cascaded multiphase DC-DC boost power converters by using the virtual resistor concept. A virtual resistor is defined as an additional control algorithm that changes the system behavior into the one that has a real resistor connected to it. As it is virtual, the virtual resistor has neither size, weight, nor losses problem. Implementation of the virtual resistor depends on how it is connected to the system. In this research, four possible virtual resistors are discussed. The design procedure for each type is also presented.
