SBK IN THE INDONESIAN PLYWOOD INDUSTRY Janette Indonesia Theses Forestry Industry, Plywood, Operation Strategy INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/55561 Indonesia is a country located in the tropics with all its natural wealth. One of the natural resources owned by Indonesia is forests. Forests in Indonesia are often known as the lungs of the world, therefore their use must be carried out properly and monitored. Therefore, through this research, it is hoped that it can describe the condition of companies engaged in the forestry industry where this industry is one of the sources of state revenue in the form of taxes (export rates) and non-taxes. Meanwhile, the plywood industry in Indonesia, which is one of the final products of the downstream forestry industry, is currently experiencing sluggish growth and even tends to decline. This is due to reduced global market demand and high production costs. One of the additional costs that companies must pay for production is in the form of reforestation funds (DR) and forest resources provision costs (PSDH). Data collection in this study was carried out through interviewing sources (company employees) and also open-ended questions to external parties who are closely related to the company. To analyze and explore current problems and conditions, this research uses several methods such as PESTEL Analysis, Porter 5 Forces, The Value Chain Analysis, VRIO Analysis, Gap Analysis, and Diamond Strategy. The findings of this study are that both internal and external factors affect company performance. Internal factors include a lack of research and development and external factors are the influence of nature/weather, demand conditions, and government regulations that are considered to be hindering the company's operations process. Based on the results of the analysis, PT.SBK must implement several strategies to support business sustainability. The strategies suggested are divided into three types based on the timeframe for implementation. For the short term, PT. SBK is expected to hold a training program for employees so that they can add insight into developments in the industry. It is also important for the company's participation in conducting studies and assessments conducted by APHI to propose a limited log export to the government. For the medium term, there are two strategies that companies can implement, namely conducting research, development, and planning of TPTJ results that can be used in 2024, and companies are encouraged to start looking for new export/sales destinations due to a decrease in demand at current export destinations (Japan). Meanwhile for the long term, because PT. SBK has a natural forest management permit, there are many other wood species found in the forest. This unused species can be an opportunity for the company to be able to produce it into a product. Therefore, it is hoped that the company can conduct further research on the use of other species found in natural forests. Besides that, PT. SBK must also prepare to expand its business to other industries to overcome the slowdown and decline of the forestry industry. Through the strategies above, it is hoped that PT. SBK can maintain the sustainability of its business. text |
