Description
Summary:The program to physically revitalize the village to become a tourist attraction in Malang is known as the thematic kampung “kampung tematik” program. This program aims to transform a kampung (slum) into a “slum friendly” kampung with creative space as its main attraction. There are four villages in the Brantas River basin that have been transformed into thematic kampung, namely Kampung Warna-Warni, Kampung Tridi, Kampung Biru Arema, dan Kampung Putih. The development of tourism in kampung is expected act as an agent of change to improve the quality of life of the people. This study aims to determine how the impact of tourism related to the quality of life in thematic kampung in the Brantas River Basin. Quality of life in this case is represented through sustainability points related to slums and informal settlements on the New Urban Agenda (NUA) which is an accelerator of Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SGD11). This research was conducted to formulate the impact of tourism’s patterns on quality of life in thematic kampung. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through free-guided interviews. The results of this study indicate that the impact of tourism that occurs is more related to the social community. However, the main stimulant for the sustainability of the community's quality of life is the added value and incentives generated by tourism. Tourism impact create a pattern, where these impacts began to occur at the exploration stage (based on the Tourism Area Life Cycle theory), due to the revitalization of the village to become a tourist attraction. This research is expected to be the answer to how tourism development can have an impact on the quality of life and how it is sustainable.
