Summary: | Indonesia is a coastal country that has sovereign rights over natural resources (exclusive rights) for the purpose of exploring and exploiting natural resources consisting of minerals and other non-living things on the seabed and the land beneath it. Currently, Indonesia's marine area data published by various agencies are still mixed. BIG in 2013 published the area of Indonesia's continental shelf which is 2,749,001 km2. Meanwhile, the Indonesian Sea Area published by the Kemenko Maritim in 2018, which is the main reference for Indonesia's maritime boundaries, explains that the Continental Shelf is 2,800,000 km2 and is a round number. Therefore, it is necessary to process the Continental Shelf area calculation in order to produce a correct and accurate area calculation. The purpose of this research is to obtain the results of the Indonesian Continental Shelf Area based on the laws and regulations that were passed.
The research methodology begins with plotting the base point according to the PP. No.38 / 2002 and PP No.37 / 2008, as well as drawing normal baselines and straight baselines from the base point in the WGS 84 coordinate system. After that, an Outer Limit was drawn as far as 200 nautical miles from the baselines. Then the broad cutting by the boundary line of the Indonesian Continental Shelf with neighboring countries and the Indonesian Territorial Sea Area. Furthermore, the calculation of the area of the Indonesian continental shelf is carried out by coordinate method.
In accordance with the research objectives of the Final Project, it is obtained that the area of the Indonesian continental shelf is 2,798,801 km2. There is a difference of 1,199 km2 from the latest total area of the Continental Shelf by Kemenko Maritim. It is hoped that the results and analysis of this final project can be used as input for the government in determining Indonesia's maritime boundaries.
