Summary: | Coalbed methane (CBM) is methane produced and stored in the coal. The
presence of CBM in coal influenced by geology condition, coal characteristics and
reservoir. This research was conducted at Muara Enim Formation which is the
formation of economically valuable coal carrier in the South Sumatra Basin. The
objective of this study was to determine the relationship of the characteristics of
the coal as a reservoir of CBM and gas content is stored. Coal seams are analyzed
Seam Kebon, Benuang, Burung, Mangus and Suban. Sampling is done by taking
samples of gas and coal samples from the drilling activity. Coal samples from five
coal seams are done laboratory analysis to determine the quality of the coal,
maceral composition, vitrinite reflectance values / huminit, cleats characteristics,
gas content, gas composition, porosity, and density of coal. Based on the known
reflectance values huminit rank coal is lignite in the study area, and the producing
gas is biogenic methane. The composition and quality of the Seam Kebon,
Benuang, Birds, Mangus and Suban not too varied with the content of nitrogen
(N) and sulfur (S) is low (<1%). Huminit quite dominant maceral composition
ranged from 76.2 to 92.6%, and the content of liptinit between 5 -20.5%. Based
on the analysis, the coal in the study area as a good store of CBM with good
porosity. Largest methane content contained in Suban Seam coal seam which is
the most in the womb huminit greatest (92.6%) in the amount of 24.05 scf / ton. |
