Summary:Due to its unique geographic location, Indonesia is categorized as a country with a high potential for earthquake hazard. It is not uncommon for earthquakes in Indonesia to cause huge losses, especially if they occur in urban area. Bandung Municipality is one of the cities that has a high risk of earthquakes because it is a densely populated urban area which is located close to active earthquake sources, Lembang Fault. Several studies stated that if an earthquake occurs in the Bandung Municipality area, the risk is greater than the earthquake in West Sumatra and Aceh. Steps that can be taken to minimize the risk is to estimate the level of damage to the building. In this study, building damage is estimated using the integration of a 5% probabilistic earthquake model in 50 years as hazard aspects, population and residential buildings as risk elements and vulnerability curves as vulnerability aspects. Meanwhile, the estimated number of casualties is estimated from the population distribution and the building damage index. This study also tries to develop the spatial classification of the building structure type into four types so that the risk estimation results can better in describing the situation in the field. The results of this study indicate that most residential buildings in Bandung Municipality have not been designed to withstand earthquakes hazard. It is also indicated that the earthquake scenario with a probability of 5% in 50 years, can cause victims as much as 10% of the total population and make 61% of buildings in Bandung Municipality experiencing heavy damage.
