Summary: | This final project research examines two contradictory aspects between traditional aspects and modernity in the scope of interior craftsmanship. The output of this research is in the form of interior decoration work using ceramic materials. This study is based on two core problems, namely the rise of minimalist design in Indonesian residential interiors and the diffusion of Indonesian culture with the characteristics of an interior full of ornamentation by minimalist design. Thisstudy was conducted to finda middle ground between the two sides of the mutually ambivalent design theme with the output of an interior decoration work that combines traditional designs in the form of kawung batik motifs with minimalist and sensual designs. Through field reviews inthe form of surveys, experiments, design exploration, design techniques, and materials, an analysis is carried out based on the findings of the field that the work created produces visuals that contain both sides of the theme raised. The results of the experiment and exploration show that the product design has a visual that is highlighted by the kawung motif and also the sensual yet minimalist wave element of the fabric. This visual element is based on a familiar cultural background in the community which has high ornamental and decorative elements, namely batik. This is because something that is familiar will be easily accepted in the community. Furthermore, the results of the study show that traditional Indonesian themed interior decoration can be applied to minimalist interiors and ceramic processing can cover a broader exploration based on adapted techniques and materials. Further experiments and explorations need to be carried out to find out what kind and how these products can be developed to have more influence on issues of culture and modernity. |
