EFFORTS TO ADVANCE CIREBON LOCAL ARTS WITH A LIMITED COMMUNITY THROUGH THE DESIGN OF CIREBON PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

In facing the world civilization, the promotion of national culture is important because it is the great goal of Indonesia and is part of the identity that the people need as citizens. Efforts to promote culture can be started from the local culture which is the root of national culture. There are several objects of cultural advancement, one of which is art. Cirebon city, which is located between West Java and Central Java, has a variety of arts that need to be preserved. However, the number of artists in the studio and the art community as the main actors has decreased and they are rarely active. Among them are performing arts studios which are quite difficult to develop due to their multidisciplinary nature and require the participation of many artists in their preservation. Based on these problems, research was conducted to find solutions according to the type of facility and program. The research method used in this design is a mixed qualitativequantitative method. Data were collected using data acquisition techniques: literature survey, interview, and study of existing projects. The data collected include strategies and facilities standards related to performing arts, references from existing projects, and interview with a performing artist. After going through the analysis process, it was found that Cirebon artists needed a place for the development of performing artists in the form of a Performing Arts Center. The design is located in the same area as the three palaces in Cirebon and is close to the active art studios. Keraton Kasepuhan is used as the main reference to make art a part of daily life. The basic elements of the palace that blend with the surrounding nature combined with art are re-applied to this facility. The Cirebon Performing Arts Center will be a place for artists to develop themselves and advance Cirebon arts as part of the national culture through collaborative activities, teaching and learning, and performances.
