Summary: | Indonesia as an archipelagic and coastal country must announce and deposit the geographic coordinates of the basepoint to the Secretary General of the United Nations for the sake of safeguarding sovereignty. Based on Government Regulation No. 38 of 2002 concerning List of Geographical Coordinates of Baseline Points for the Indonesian Archipelago and its amendments to Government Regulation No. 37 of 2008 the number of basepoint and baseline for Indonesia is 195 points and 193 segments. Unfortunately, there are some basepoint and baseline whose placement is not optimal, thus causing the Indonesian Sea Boundary to be drawn incorrectly. Examples of basepoint and baseline that are not placed optimally are the base line crossing the land and the basepoint being on the mainland, the baseline crossing the mainland, and so on.
In this Research, The process of making recommendations for basepoint and baseline is first done by categorizing the conditions of the basepoint and baseline. After that, each category of conditions will be analyzed for the solutions that can be applied. The solution can be in form of re-digitizing, deleting, or adding basepoint and baseline. After that, the additional area of Indonesian waters will be calculated by digitizing the area first.
This research resulted in recommendations for the optimal placement of the basepoint in the form of a list of the coordinates of the basepoint as well as the visualization in the form of a map. Recommendations for the placement of basepoint and baseline resulted in an increase in the sea area of Indonesian waters by 1404,880720 km2. Hopefully, the result of this study can be used by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia in making improvements to the basepoint of the Indonesian Sea Boundary. |
