A STARTUP ECOSYSTEM FRAMEWORK R Retna Ayu Mustikarini K, R Indonesia Theses product management, agile approach, startup ecosystem INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/56009 Startup product management is a crucial process in technology-based startups since it promotes the firm’s growth by creating solutions to real-world problems. At the same time, agility needs to be maintained, including conducting agile product management. Even though it is common knowledge that technology-based new ventures practice an agile approach on their daily basis, there is no particular framework to explain the startup ecosystem to support this. Therefore, the research questions of this study are: what are elements of the technology-based startup ecosystem framework in conducting agile product management? How are relationships between those elements? This study uses semi-structured interviews to obtain the data from 11 technology-based start-up companies in Indonesia. It is generalized and analyzed by the qualitative approach to be the framework that can be utilized by managerial practitioners, particularly as technology-based startup entrepreneurs and the ecosystem as a whole. The findings show that there are several components required to conduct product management, which are founding team, organizational culture, technology, market, finance and human capital. There are relationships intertwined between those elements creating an ecosystem framework for the company. Founding team requires entrepreneurial experience, mindset, and behavior. Meanwhile, product management offers two different approaches for the company, namely product development and product improvement, consecutively aiming for product quantity and product quality. The theoretical and managerial implication, also limitations of the study are explained at the end of the article. text |
