This resultsin decreasing the accessibility of PHD’s. The provision of space facilities inhigher education institutions is currently not responding to audism due to the absence of regulation on space design, especiallyfor PHD’s. This research aims to identify the condition of existing classrooms that affect of students with hearingdisabilitiesof reviewed from the aspects of learning independenceand findthe significant aspects the furniture settings in the existing classrooms based on students with hearingdisabilitiesbehavior in the learning process. Besides, this research also aims to complete the deaf space discussion in the lecture space with the aim to increase the independence of students with hearing disabilities. The research object was used of in this research are the theory space, studio, and practicum at the Center of Art, Design and Language lecture space at the Bandung Institute of Technology is currently not explicitly designed for PHD’s. The reseachers made observations on the research object to see the extent of the lecture space in applied the deaf spaceconcept. Mixed methods are used for this research with a case study approach, while the research designisused explanatory sequential.The datacollection through questionnaire, observation, interview, and simulation, toidentify the conditions of existing lecture space and aspect that affect of students with hearing disabilities behavior in learning process. The study’s findings indicate that the existing lecture space in the suboptimal category has not used the deaf space concept. However, the three lecture space studied have used the deaf space concept, namely thefurniture layout, visibility, lighting, colors, materials and acousticsare, which are influential in students with hearing impairment behavior.This finding provesthat the deaf space conceptis a very useful andessential concept to be applied to lecture space, so that students with hearing disabilities can access the learning process independently. text |
