THE EFFECT OF VARIATION IN LUBRICATION, ROUGHNESS, AGING TIME, AND ANODIZATION ON FRICTION COEFFICIENT OF ALUMINUM ALLOY

Tribology is the study of everything related to friction, wear, and lubrication on surfaces that are in relative contact with each other. The frictional characteristic of material is closely related to the wear of the material, the greater the friction that occurs, the greater the wear. The friction...

The frictional characteristic of material is closely related to the wear of the material, the greater the friction that occurs, the greater the wear. The friction characteristic of a material is expressed in terms of the friction coefficient (?). Furthermore, the use of aluminum alloys as a material for engineering components that rub against each other is increasing, so it is important to know the friction characteristics of these aluminum alloys. In this research, the friction coefficient is determined by using a pin on a disk. Before starting the test, the test equipment is calibrated to improve the accuracy of the data. The friction coefficient test is done by varying several parameters such as lubrication, surface roughness, and aging time. In addition, 100 grams of load is used. In conclusion, the surface roughness greatly affects the value of the aluminum alloy friction coefficient, the more coarse the surface, the greater the friction coefficient obtained. The aging time affects the hardness of the aluminum alloy, affecting the value of its friction coefficient. The harder the surface of the sample, the smaller the coefficient of friction. Furthermore, applying lubricant to the sample will also reduce the value of the sample friction coefficient, lubricating oil has a more significant effect on decreasing the coefficient of friction than water. Lastly, the anodized surface of the sample acts as a reservoir for the lubricant. text
