Summary:Genus Zingiber belongs to the Zingiberaceae and widely distributed and cultivated in Asia, South America, and Africa. Genus Zingiber widely used as spices, color of food, parfume, and/or medicine. The goal of the analysis is to review the chemical compounds, pharmacological activities, and traditional uses of bengle (Zingiber cassumunar Roxb.) and lempuyang gajah (Zingiber zerumbet (L.) Rosc. ex Sm.). This analysis was done by collecting literatures using search engine including PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct. The journal used is a journal in English, indexed by Scopus, published in 2000-2021, containing the chemical compounds, pharmacological activities, and/or traditional uses of those spesies of Zingiber. Chemical compound from Zingiber spp. have been reported including phenylbutenoids, flavonoids, terpenoids, quinone, polyphenol and/or curcuminoids. Zingiber spp. exhibit a broad spectrum of pharmacological activities, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and so on.
