Description
Summary:Adolescents often experience excessive emotions that could affects teenager’s relationship with their social surroundings. Even so, adolescents lack the safe space to express their emotion freely. Social medias are often used by them as the primary medium for emotional expression due to the high accessibility. However, the internet is not safe enough for Indonesian teenagers due to the high risk of bullying and harassment, that could even breed trauma. This project aims to create a guide for teenagers to understand their emotions better, and provide a safe space for them to express their emotions through therapeutic art-making. As a creative outlet that encourages collaboration through transformative experiences, it is chosen because of its conformity with adolescents’ cognitive development degree that emphasizes on abstract thinking. This activity is facilitated through journaling activity book, a format that is quite popular within Indonesian teenagers. The catharsis process occurs in three steps: Enrich, where adolescents are taught various, less popular methods of art making; Empower, helping teens to recognize and dissect their emotions in order to build confidence; and lastly Facilitates serves as a safe space to express their emotion from the acquired skill and confidence. This project is aimed and specifically designed for Indonesian adolescents as an effort to create a safe space for them to express their emotion according to their cognitive and emotional development.
