Dayak rattan wicker-craft which is originate from Kalimantan, is one of Indonesia's original traditional crafts. This craft is done from generation to generation through it’s people so it has traditional motifs that have their own characteristics and previous traditional stories. Rattan wicker was created to meet the needs of the Dayak community,all of their needs are made through natural materials. But over the times, there are already many tings to fullfill their needs, that are available very instantaneously. The traditional craftsmen began to decrease and the interest as craftsmen also decreased, so that it’s feared that Dayak culture would disappear, especially in areas in Dusun Selatan District, Central Kalimantan. One of the obstacles for local craftsmen is the lack of combination materials for the development of wicker-craft products. On the other hand, this area has other natural materials such as water hyacinth, purun, bark fibers and various types of rattan which have the opportunity to be a combination material. In addition, it can also strengthen regional craftsmen for collaboration, so that the results are a products that easy to make and have a variety of complementary characteristics. Based on the results of experiments and material exploration, it was found that the typical Dayak rattan wicker can be a good laptop base, this is an opportunity for new product development, and the combination of other natural materials that can increase the increase in market demand. Especially this product has 3 superior values, environmentally friendly nature-materials, cultural values, and multifunctional products. So it is expected to attract enthusiasts of typical Dayak rattan craftsmen as well as an increase in consumers from within the region and the urban communities.
