To know forms of the community’s resilience, an ethnographical method is used to understand the community’s view towards living environment problems and to understand the forms of actions taken by the community to overcome such problems. This emic research will give an objective understanding because this research is done with live interactions of the people of RW 04 Kelurahan Ciroyom Bandung. More specifically, this research is done on MDA Al Qamariyyah as one of the non-formal educational institution established by the community. The results of this research may be used as a steppingstone to do other experimental research in creating public space visual arts. The process of creating the artwork is using a participatory approach that actively involved the community. The next step is to do research using descriptive method to understand the community’s response towards the artwork produced within the neighborhood of MDAAl Qamariyyah. The result of the research shows that there is resilience within the community of Ciroyom urban village in the forms of social capitals, such as togetherness, openness, as well as a stronginitiative from the community. According to those findings, a public space visual art that reflects those social capitals is created. A public space visual art is chosen in hopes that the community receive positive impacts, such as establishment of dialogues between the stakeholders of public interests, an appealing artwork for the public, establishment of good relationship between artists as the initiator and the community, as well as increasing the community’s appreciation toward artworks. The community’s response towards the artwork is they understand the message of the importance of caring for the environment that is delivered through the artwork. This research finds that the community’s initiative to establish non-formal educational institutions, such as madrasahs, has the potential to further improve the resilience toward living ivenvironment problems by developing a more intensive and earlier environmental literacy learning.
