Description
Summary:Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) that caused a pandemic around the world. One of the main thing that could be done in order to help those people who have been infected and to prevent the virus from spreading is by maintaining and boosting the immune system. Even though the virus is known to attack the respiratory system, COVID19 would start to affect brains cognitive function. This secondary effect could be caused either by direct infection by SARS-CoV-2 to the brain, or it could happen through an excessive inflammation followed by a damage to the peripheral organs which indirectly caused another damage to the cognitive system of the patient. Immunonutritione are series of nutrients that have activity in modulating the immune system. Apart of boosting our immune system, immunonutrition also has a positive impact on our brain cognitive activity. This literature review is made specifically to understand which nutrients are able to modulate our immune system as well as helps to improve our brain's cognitive activity and its application to face COVID-19 pandemic. This review was done by collecting a series of international data from 2015 and 2021 through the search engine such as Google Scholar and Pubmed with a predetermined keywords. Then those relevant data were appraised and interpreted. International journal that are used must at least have a Q1 to Q3 index at Scimago. From those data it could be found that there are some immunonutrients’ activity which are protein, fatty acids, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin B12, folic acid, zinc, magnesium, potassium, selenium and iron which would help to modulate the immune system which is related to inflammation, antioxidants and directly associated with cell function and act as a shield to improve nervous system within the brain.
