THE IMPACT OF COORDINATED SIGNALIZE INTERSECTIONS ON VEHICLE FUEL CONSUMPTION COSTS

Congestion will affect to fuel consumption, if there is congestion, the vehicle's fuel consumption will be higher. Therefore, a coordinated signal intersection is needed which can affect traffic performance. It is necessary to know the effect of the application of coordinated signalize intersection on the cost of vehicle fuel consumption. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of coordinated signalize intersection on the cost of fuel consumption. In this study, the coordination of signalized intersections is applied to the main corridor of Jalan RE. Martadinata, precisely at Simpang RE. Martadinata – Citarum, Lombok; Simpang RE. Martadinata – Cihapit; dan Simpang RE. Martadinata – Taman Pramuka, Aceh. This study will compare the Do-Nothing (Existing) scenario with the Do-Something (Signalized Intersection Coordination) scenario. This coordinated signalize intersection is simulated using Vissim 11 in a simultaneous system scenario, a progressive system scenario 1 (West – East priority), and a progressive system scenario 2 (East – West priority). The factor for calculating the amount of vehicle fuel consumption using TRL (Transport Research Laboratory) formula, this formulation variable uses the average vehicle speed for each type of vehicle. The simulation results in the four scenarios show that coordinated signalize intersection has an effect on intersection performance and vehicle performance, namely a change in the average speed of the vehicle. The performance of the intersection based on the cost of vehicle fuel consumption obtained from the progressive system scenario 1A (West – East Priority) with a prohibition to turn right at the RE. Martadinata – Cihapit intersection from both directions of vehicle movement produced good performance due to a decrease in vehicle fuel consumption costs for each type of vehicle from both directions of movement. text
