This phenomenon occurs in big cities in Indonesia, namely DKI Jakarta, Bandung City, and Surabaya City. The escalating number of ownership and use of private vehicles, especially private cars, is a problem that must be handled so as not to cause negative externalities. This study aims to see how the strategy to limit private car ownership in Bandung, DKI Jakarta, and the city of Surabaya by looking at the factors that affect the status and number of private vehicle ownership. Reach from the results of a questionnaire survey through 585 respondents, through binomial logistic analysis, it is found that the relationship of factors that affect the status of private vehicle ownership and through multiple regression analysis obtained the relationship of factors that affect the number of private vehicle ownership. Based on these factors, strategies are then contrived to limit private car ownership in the form of garage capacity restrictions, restrictions on SIM A ownership, increasing choice of modes and accessibility of public transportation, reducing public transportation costs, and increasing private vehicle taxes, policies to limit the use of private vehicles for civil servants, propaganda trends in the use of public transportation, and the strategy of the private vehicle quota system. text
