Sunflower oil containing ?-tocopherol is an alternative natural antioxidant against the detrimental effects of ROS. The antioxidant activity of sunflower oil was reported to be high level. Liquid crystal emulsion was selected as an antioxidant delivery system of the oil. This delivery is advantageous in stability and skin hydration due to the formation of lamellar structure. The use of Crodafos CES® has been shown to form liquid crystals. In this research, liquid crystal formula optimization was carried out based on a literature review of Q1-Q3 journals published in 2000-2021 found in searching engines i.e PubMed, Google Scholar, and ReasearchGate. Here, we compared 5 formulas using Crodafos CES® as an emulsifying system with criteria of producing liquid crystals revealed by polarization microscope; having thixotropic flow, pH in the range of 5-7, a zeta potential> 40, and good stability. The purposed formula of liquid crystal is consisting of crodafos CES® 5- 10%; behenyl alcohol 1-3%; sunflower oil 5-15%; mineral oil 1-5%; cetil palmitat 1-3%; glycerin 1-10%; and imidurea 0,03-0,5%. text
