Description
Summary:Abstarct:

Domestic solid waste is refused material produced by domestic activities. Since not all the wastes have been managed by P.D Kebersihan Kota Bandung people should

managed their waste independently. Open burning is one of the commonest way that used by people in Bandung to minimize their waste. About 28.84% people in Bandung, open burn their waste. Open burning might cause air pollutant, which is dangerous for human and environment, such as Oxides of Nitrogen and Sulphur Dioxide. There are two mechanisms of producing NOx from burning process; firstly is oxidation of organics nitrogen contained in burned material; secondly is oxidation the atmospheric Nitrogen in very high temperature. Sulphur Dioxide is formed when the sulphur compound in the material that burned is oxidized by oxygen. This research aims to determine the emission factor of NO and SO2 that have been emitted from domestic solid waste open burning in Bandung City. Thirty samples have been taken randomly from the area of Bandung City. In this research, open burning simulation has been done in the modular incinerator with supply of air. NOx and SO2 emission measurement is done by using electrochemical sensor principal. Using ToxicGas Analyzer instrument Riken Keiki SC-90. Measurement is done by three types of instrument to measure NO and NO2 and SO2. NO2 that measured is always in zero ppm. NOx parameter is measured in NO, due to insignificant amount of NO2.

Emission measurement is done continuously from the starting time of burning until the volume has been reduced and only the material that can not be burned was left, and the temperature decreased. Both of NO and SO2 is highly depended on the temperature. NO emission is influenced by the duration of burning and mass of non

organic component. SO2 emission theoretically influenced by the mass of organic component, but this has not been revealed. The emission factor per every wet based mass of solid waste for NO is 2.85 g/kg, and for SO2 is 8.10 g/kg.
