This research objectives to explain the residential mobility of generation X and millennial generation in Palembang Municipality. Generation X and the millennial generation are a group of generations who are in the productive age and their composition will reach 47.6% of the total population in Indonesia in 2021. There have been many studies that have investigated residential mobility, including the trigger factors of the decision of households in a certain area to move, but there are no studies that explicitly explain residential mobility by focusing on generational differences. Therefore, research related to residential mobility was carried out which focused on the millennial generation and generation X in the Palembang Municipality. The method used in this study uses content analysis to identify factors that influence residential mobility based on a literature review, then descriptive statistical analysis, crosstab analysis, and statistical analysis of associations to identify the characteristics and factors that affect residential mobility generation X and millennial generation based on the samples that have been obtained. The results of this study prove that the intensity of residential mobility that occurs in Palembang Municipality is low with the level of residential mobility in generation X, 15.8% higher than the millennial generation. Additionally, environmental factors are the main trigger for households to move.
