Description
Summary:Kidney failure is a systemic disease and final common pathway of kidney disease. Therapy for kidney failure is currently expensive. This literature study aims to collect Indonesian plants that have a protective effect on the kidney that can prevent or delay the progression of kidney injury. The literature study was carried out using Pubmed and Google scholar as search engine. The plants obtained were grouped based on the type of kidney injury (acute or chronic). There are 11 Indonesian plants that are only used in acute conditions, namely licorice, garlic, binahong, black cumin, moringa, coriander, neem, peppermint, rosmery, salam koja, and tomatoes, while plants that are only used in chronic conditions are 6 plants, namely cloves, gedi leaves, turmeric, pepper, meniran, and sugar apple. There are 6 Indonesian plants that can be used in both conditions, namely grapes, pomegranate, ginger, kelabet, rhubarb, and tea. From 23 plants that obtained, there were 4 plants used empirically to treat kidney disease, namely meniran, licorice, neem, and black cumin. Potential plants as kidney protective agents for acute conditions are green tea ethanol extract 10 mg/kg, lycopene 4 mg/kg, garlic juice 0.2 g/ml/100 kg, pomegranate seed oil 0.8 mg/kg, and kelabet seed powder 10%, while for chronic conditions are green tea water extract, pomegranate leaf methanol extract, or rhizome ginger ethanol extract 100 mg/kg, curcumin 75 mg/kg, pomegranate seed oil 0.4 mg/kg, and kelabet seed powder 5%.
