This literature review was conducted to inventory the pharmacological activity of Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.), mulberry (Morus alba L.), cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylancium), magnolia berry (Schisandra chinensis), and black cumin (Nigella sativa L.) against disease that caused the highest mortality rate in Indonesia. PubMed was search engine were used in this study. Journals that include on inclusion criteria of each plant were pomegranate 21 journals, mulberry 26 journals, cinnamon 26 journals, magnolia berry 26 journals, and black cumin 24 journals. These five plants have active compounds in each plant. The active compounds in pomegranate are punicalagin and gallic acid, mulberry are morusin, albanol, kuwanon, and mulberofuran, cinnamon is cinnamaldehyde, magnolia berry are skisandrin and gomisin, and in black cumin is thymoquinone. Pomegranate has potential pharmacology activity against type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension, mulberry against type 2 diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia, cinnamon against hypertension, magnolia berry against fatty liver disease and dyslipidemia, and black cumin against type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. text |
