But, operation conditions like high steam injection can lead SRP to fail so it can not pump the fluid to the surface which is well-known as pump failure. Pump failures in field X consist of two problems: not pumping and pump stuck. A well will get two failures per year ideally according to routine service schedule of pump change. But, the fact is some wells show failure rate greater than twice in a year which could be called repeated failure wells. This phenomenon is not profitable because of additional cost of well job and loss production oil due to off-well during pump change. The objectives of this study are to determine factors which can lead a well to repeated failures and to propose some recommendations to prevent failures in order to reduce number of repeated failures on a well. The parameters that will be analyzed consist of pump design parameters including pump speed, pump stroke, pump size; operation conditions including wellhead temperature and fluid rate; well jobs data, and conditions of pump components from DIFA. The results show that factors cause not pumping problems on a well are high pump stroke followed by high pump speed, low reservoir temperature and unscrewed problem due to low makeup torsion between plunger and rod string. And, the root causes of pump stuck are expansion of pump components and sand production in wellbore. Sand production can be occurred due to high fluid rate from reservoir and high steam injection rate or caused by well job such as remove liner. Finally, use of pump speed lower than 10 SPM, standardized the value of makeup torsion between plunger and rod string can prevent the tendency of not pumping problems and use of pump special clearance can reduce the number of pump stuck problems. Furthermore, the improvement of the material quality of pump components including, plunger, barrel, standing valve and traveling valve can prevent both not pumping and pump stuck problems. text
