INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/56823 The massive increase in Southeast Asia’s population in recent years has led to the need for an electricity increase. There was a prediction that in 2040, the demand would double from what it is today. In ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation or APAEC, the organization commits to achieve one of the targets in the Sustainable Development Goals by substantially increasing renewable energy by 23% in the regional energy mix. One of the renewable sources of energy which has large potential in this region comes from wind. Some countries, such as Vietnam, Philippines, and Indonesia have taken actions in responding to this issue by building wind power plants. Through this effort, the region has received a new renewable energy supply of 500 MW. Due to its the high prospect, there is a need for a strategic policy to optimize them. This study aims to identify the areas that are best suited to wind energy development in Southeast Asia by integrating numerous remote sensing data with geographical and physical aspect and energy demand-supply analysis. This study generates suitability map in 3 levels of height, in which small-scale wind turbines are suitable to be developed in the outermost and remote area, medium-scaled are best suited for area with medium population density, and large-scale wind turbine in suburban area. The result of this study could help various parties, both government and private, in increasing the supply of renewable energy in the future. text
