Description
Summary:Covid-19 pandemic has affected the world’s economy severely that businesses has been struggling to survive. Only if businesses, especially SMEs are more prepared to face the unprecedented, the impact might be damped into the lowest possible level. SDL-based crisis management offers enterprises, especially SMEs, a dynamic, iterative, and holistic approach to evaluate current crisis handling while planning for the next future. It emphasizes on collaboration between and among biotic entities e.g. stakeholder and abiotic entities e.g. technology and information. As a result, cognition, co-learning, continuous learning, and relevance of crisis management overtime could be achieved. Focus group discussion is now being used widely outside social sciences discipline as it is able to generate in-depth insight of real-world phenomena from the collective perspective – instead of individual point of view. This approach can also be utilized to criticize and design program collaboratively with stakeholders. Despite its advantages, focus group often requires several attempts to generate holistic insights, relates to sequential and massive data processing, and use respondents mostly to extract information only while learning process of the respondents are left out. A reformation of focus group method is proposed to tackle prior concerns. This system approach-based Focus Group is able to gain holistic information in one attempt while analyzing data on-site collaboratively with the respondents. This way, cognitive biases could be reduced during the analysis, complex data become easier to handle, and respondents will have the chance to learn of the discussed program, problem solving, or potential intervention that respondents could comply after attending the FGD. Systems approached-based Focus Group Discussion (SSIP-FG) was utilized to explore current state of enterprise crisis management while also structuring the phenomena within them through enterprises manager and assistant managers’ perspective. Interviews added the information by providing initial stance from the Director point of views and evaluation of the SDL-based Crisis Management. On the other hand, SSIP-FG is validated by the participants through the process itself and an open-ended questionnaire survey. The result shows that SDL-based Crisis Management is relevant to capturing the structure of phenomena. The iteration process of the latter encourages analytical and reflective thinking of the users. Meanwhile, SSIP-FG faced many challenges despite robust preparation theoretically and practically. Even so, the aims of SSIP-FG to promote co-learning, minimizes researcher’s bias i.e. balancing power between researcher and participant, and structuring and analyzing data on-site were achieved. The result contributes to the extending of each notion i.e. crisis management and focus group discussion method through innovative approach of multidisciplinarity and holism. The study implies practically to guide organization understand their world from within through in-depth and holistic discussion, in order to see their potentials and risks, thus they can prepare for the worst
