The result of powder metallurgy is rod wich is then swaged into smaller diameters as indicated by the presence of deformation lines. Cutting of the rod is performed by cut-off grinding. Joining of the contact point to the steel base is done by brazing using silver metal. The use of silver braze material is to obtain good electrical conductivity. The alloying elements of copper, iron, nickel, and magnesium in the braze material are to diffuse them into the tungsten. Nevertheless it turned out that silver can diffuse through the tungsten grain boundaries. In this work, an exercise in joining is performed by a phosphorus-silicon-copper based alloy. Examination by SEM-EDS ndicated that filler metal did not diffuse to tungsten yet. text |
