The sudden changes will naturally cause stress, which is the one factor of academic performance that had been studied for more than a decade. Preceding researches of stress and academic performance had resulted conflicting statements. Some plausible reasons are the existence of the Yerkes-Dodson law and also coping strategies. This study reassesses those associations among business and management students whose more vulnerable with stress since their main learning activities usually demand group and offline environment. Based on the moderated regression analysis with 321 samples, stress and coping strategies only significantly impact the perceived academic performance, not the actual performance which is GPA. More than a third-quarter of the students have moderate stress level which can be a plausible explanation of the positive relationship of stress and perceived academic performance. Problem-focused coping found to be a more significant moderator variable. Business and management students are expected to be a future leader. Low academic performance might cause lower self-esteem, confidence, and efficacy which affect their performance as human capital and also a leader. From these findings, the researcher suggests the academic institutions to provide education of stress management. text |
