Description
Summary:Many people who need wood as a building material, both for construction purposes, decoration and furniture to increase along with the increasing number of people so that wood industry in Indonesia is always increasing. The development of wood processing industry produces waste in the form of wood waste such as sawdust and wood pieces. The Department of Forestry and Plantations in 1999/2000 shows that Indonesia's wood production reached 4.61 million m3 while sawn timber reached 2.06 million m3. then the assumption that the waste generated reaches 61% then it is estimated the waste of wood produced reaches more than 5 million m3. According to Haygreen and Bowyer (1996) various types of wood waste are shaving, shale, biskit, chips, sawdust, strands, sliver and wood wool. Survey results show that the waste generated by the industry reaches 10 to 200 sack of waste wood with an average weight of 5-15 kg per sack in a week. The highest amount of waste is wood chips with a ratio of 1 sack of sawdust compared to 10 sack of wood chips. The existence of these wastes creates a new problem, that in fact in field is waste wood cannot utilized optimally because the existing waste is currently only stacked, thrown into the river (water pollution), or burned directly (add to the carbon emissions in the atmosphere) . Besides the loss of the natural environment as mentioned above, it will certainly decrease the production of wood and in the next turn will raise the price of wood building materials that are increasingly unaffordable by the community. Based on the above, it is necessary to develop the product by utilizing the waste of waste wood which is expected to be obtained from the material and can increase the added value and the use value of the material so that it can increase its economic value so that it can overcome the negative impact of industrial waste wood to the environment. Through experiments on waste wood related to exploration. So in the process researchers need to collect field data in the form of test results against the material.
