Summary: | Coal mining activities that have an important impact on the energy sector and national development also have the potential to have a significant negative impact on the environment. One of the crucial issues that often becomes an environmental problem in coal mining is acid mine drainage (AMD), same goes for PT X which is located in Sebakis, Nunukan, North Kalimantan. PT X applies an active treatment system with neutralization and sedimentation methods to treat the AMD produced. However, based on the evaluation results that have been carried out, the capacity of the existing settling pond which is reviewed in this final project is not sufficient. This is due to several factors, the most significant of which are the inefficient use of lime and the prolonged maintenance period of the settling pond due to the limitations of the long-arm excavator. Expansion of the settling pond area and improvement of the lime addition technique are the best alternatives that can be chosen at this time considering the limited life of the mine. With a discharge of
8.04 m3/second for SP-1; 2.20 m3/sec for SP-2; and 3.16 m3/second for SP-3, an area of
3.56 Ha is required for SP-1 expansion; 1.14 Ha for SP-2 expansion; and 2.67 Ha for SP-3 expansion.
