Description
Summary:Fiber optic cable has an important role in modern communication technology. However, the fiber cable has lack on the difficulty of installation and maintenance, especially if the location is under water/submarine. One of the causes of damage to submarine fiber optic cables is related to the vessel activity/fishing. By utilizing Automatic Identification System (AIS) technology, it is possible to do the monitoring of vessels around the Marine Cable Communication Systems (SKKL). In this study, a vessel monitoring system was implemented on the SKKL line by utilizing AIS data obtained from terrestrial and satellite stations. The proposed system is able to monitor the activity and status of the vessel, maps the movement of the vessel in real time, and provide warnings related to vessel activities that endanger submarine cables. In addition, the system can also provide periodic reports related to vessels passing through SKKL.
