Description
Summary:Cities are growing and urbanizing rapidly which affects the demand for mobility. On the other hand, urban mobility remains reliant on motorized transportation which has a various substantial externalities. If these are not solved, urban mobility will become heavily dependent on the unsustainable side. At the same time, there is a Cycling Boom phenomenon, which is influenced by COVID-19 pandemic. This phenomenon can become a demand capital for Non-Motorized Transportation (NMT) modes that are believe to be able to internalize these externalities, with Cycling being one of the most sustainable modes. Reflecting back on previous crises, we can see how it might be utilized to produce new urban standard which more sustainable. However, cyclist and travelers need to face the main barriers before cycling. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the main barriers to cycling in Bandung. This research uses convergent parallel mixed methods design approaches with exploratory factor analysis method, cross tabulation, descriptive statistics, descriptive qualitative, and kernel density. The results of this study formed main barriers to cycling, namely the existence of bicycle lanes, which consist of variables: 1) there are no protected bicycle lanes and separate from motorized vehicles; 2) bicycle lanes are not connected to destination; 3) protected bicycle lanes are not connected to the destination; 4) there are no bicycle lanes; 5) bicycle lanes and public transportation networks are not integrated; and 6) there are no bicycle signs. In Bandung, there are a few or even almost no bicycle lanes (especially protected/ dedicated lanes), even there are no bicycle signs.
