Biodiesel is a type of bioenergi which is included as a new and renewable source of energy. Burn characteristic of biodiesel is near with petrodiesel. With these matters, biodiesel considered as the substitute of petrodiesel. Biodiesel obtained through transesterification of vegetation oil using methanol and KOH as catalyst. Optimalization of this process the conducted by varying the concentration of methanol and KOH. In food frying, waste frying oil should not used repeatedly because it will generate the free radical which can cause cancer. Using waste frying as a raw material for biodiesel is an alternative to exploiting the waste of frying oil. The aim of this research is to optimalize biodiesel synthesis from waste frying oil, and then analyzing its quality. According to this research, highest quality biodiesel obtained when the comparison of waste frying oil : methanol : KOH at 100 : 20 : 1,5. At this condition, biodiesels density (at temperature 40 oC) is 0,8532-0,8698 g/mL; kinematic viscosity (cSt) is 3,49-3,61 cSt ; acidity number is 0,0896-0,1371 mg KOH/g ; saphonification number is 241,7380-263,6406 mg KOH/g ; flash point is 117 oC - 125 oC ; cloud point is 10,55 oC - 14 oC ; pour point is 6,7 oC - 10 oC ; totally glycerol is 0,128 - 0,137 % ; free glycerol is 0,015-0,018 % and ester percentage is 99,70 - 99,72 %. Beside that, Halpen test showing us that there are no siklopropenoid group. |
