Therefore PT X will begin initiating new projects for mineral processing. Selection of plant location is a vital decision in project initiation. The decision making process will be standardized to allow the company to select the most suitable alternative for upcoming projects.
Standardization is done by identifying steps in the decision making process of choosing plant location. These steps will be incorporated into a prototype of decision support system application. Decision making involves several location factors which are tailored to the project’s requirements. Among these factors are generic location factors which universally apply to all projects. These generic factors are identified and then put into the prototype as a standardized location factors.
The DSS application prototype is developed using SDLC methodology and uses analytic hierarchy process decision model. The prototype consists of three subsystems: data management, model, and user interface. The prototype is equipped with data storages which store location factors, data and information regarding alternatives, and comparison values. Model subsystem is divided into three models, each representing calculation steps in AHP. The output from the prototype is recommendation of best location according to the value of global priority of each alternative. The prototype is built using Microsoft Excel and utilizing Macro feature.
