Therefore, automatic control system is needed to ease pilot in doing said maneuvers accurately. Control system is designed to be able to do manipulations on dynamic characteristics of the aircraft from its trim condition, as well as doing tracking command for a certain flight-related variable. This undergraduate thesis will discuss on how to improve a tracking system for turning maneuver, in which the control law is determined using an optimal control techniques. Designed flight control system will be based on F-4 Phantom aircraft linearized dynamic model. Control systems are improved by doing a modification to dynamic model of the aircraft, which is to adds tracking reference variable into the known state-space model from dynamic equation of the aircraft, and then design the tracking control system using MATLAB/Simulink software. The system will be evaluated through simulation by varying the tracking reference variable value and doing various turning maneuver scenarios. Simulation results show that the model and simulation that have been done could give some good tracking performances and aircraft trajectory result in the set maneuver scenarios. text
