Monazite is a by-product of the mineral-sands indutry production which content of cerium is 22-25 % wt. This work provides isolation of cerium from Bangkas Monazite mineral by Solvent Impregnated Resin (SIR). Eluate of which is produced, precipitated as cerium oxalate (Ce2(C2O4)3.nH2O) and calcinated to cerium oxide powder. Ce2(C2O4)3.nH2O was synthesized with oxalic acid precipitation methode at ambient temperature and 50 oC. Calcination of oxide formation was conducted at temperature 400 oC for 24 h. Characterizations of product were evaluated by Thermal Analysis (TG/DTA) and XRD pattern analysis. Cerium oxalate which is produced by processing temperature 50 oC showed more purity product than synthesis at room temperature. The result oxide which was obtained also showed high purity product. Optimization of cerium oxalate synthesis conditions were evaluated to obtain oxide with high homogeneity and purity. text |
