Summary: | Water is a basic human need that must be available in an adequate and adequate quantity and quality. Over time, developments in the pace of development in Indonesia have resulted in environmental problems, especially the provision of drinking water. One of the problems faced in the supply of drinking water is the insufficient quantity of water to meet the ever-increasing demand. Padang City is the city with the highest population in the province of West Sumatra with a population of 950,871 people. According to the RTRW of West Sumatra Province 2012-
2032, Padang City has a strategic function, namely as a Pusat Kegiatan Nasional (PKN) and it
is part of the Mainstay Area of Padang Pariaman and its surroundings. Therefore, this does not rule out that the need for drinking water in Padang City will continue to increase every year. In this study, a study was conducted to determine the drinking water needs of households in Padang City by conducting quantitative research using a questionnaire which functions to collect information related to household water consumption. Questionnaires were distributed online and offline starting from February 21 to April 22, 2021 with a minimum sample size of 400 people by simple random sampling method. Based on the results of the research conducted, it was found that the use of household drinking water in Padang City was an average of 158.4 liters / person / day with a standard deviation of 51.4. From the results of the study, an analysis was carried out related to the effect of water consumption on raw water sources, economic aspects, social aspects consisting of age, gender, number of family members and education as the determining factors that affect water consumption and fluctuations in household drinking water use in Padang City. The selection of Padang City as the study area is expected to be able to review the planning of drinking water needs in the future so that it is more effective and efficient and it is expected to represent other big cities in Indonesia.
